Mary McArdle

Mary is currently interested in fabric collage using free motion machine embroidery. She also does some eco-dying. She likes to dabble with experimental textiles including silk papermaking, fabric and thread bowls and is also currently learning more about fabric journals.

She likes to go to workshops and learn about new techniques and then try to adapt them into her own work. She likes playing with various elements of textile media and seeing what will happen.

Mary makes free motion embroidery wall hangings and framed pieces, some quilted banners and fabric bowls. She draws on nature and the landscape for inspiration.

Mary has a Diploma of Studio Textile Arts from TAFE/RMIT Brunswick. She majored in tapestry weaving and experimental textiles. Through her working career as a primary school teacher, she learnt quilt making and some of her works utilise this textile art form.

She has participated in local, Australia wide, USA, UK and NZ exhibitions for both tapestry weaving and fabric art. She also exhibits regularly at the biannual Alcove Art Exhibition at the Box Hill Community Art Centre.
