Carly is a free-motion machine embroidery textile artist. She draws with a sewing machine and delights in using different textured yarns, thread, dyes, silk and canvas in her work.
She uses free motion machine embroidery techniques to create 2D and 3D art pieces covering embroideries, sculptured bowls, jewellery, bags, doilies and bookmarks recreating nature in her work.
Carly is inspired by nature, colour and texture. Flowers, animals, water and the people around her motivate her every day. The happiness she gains from engaging in challenging embroideries and accomplishing a finished piece is wonderful and she has the pleasure of thinking, ‘Wow, I made that!’
She enjoys connecting with people on an emotional level. Creating her work brings her happiness and she hopes others feel that connection too.
Carly completed an Associate Diploma in Arts, Studio Textiles at the Brunswick College of Textiles and has exhibited in many exhibitions and won awards since graduating. She is a member of the United Artspace located in the UK. She regularly participates in the Alcove Art Shop Exhibitions held at Box Hill Community Arts Centre and is president of the Alcove Art Shop Committee of Management.
